Hey hockey player – in this video, I’m going to talk about how you can reduce anxiety before a game.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions on how to deal with pre-game anxiety – and the first step is to determine whether the anxiety is coming from within or from external influences.

Endogenous anxiety (internal) could mean you have a chemical imbalance within your body that truly exposes you to greater anxieties every day.

Exogenous anxiety (external) occurs to a lot of hockey athletes and this is situations happening outside of you and is resulting in pre-game anxiety.

So WHY does anyone have pre-game anxiety? Well, the biggest answer is that they are simply not prepared.

Preparation kills anxiety 10 times out of 10.

Repetition and preparation can take away anxiety.

So when and if you are experiencing pre-game anxiety, stop looking for other ways to cope and start asking yourself why do you have it.

The answer lies within your preparation…

Preparation leads to confidence!

Thanks for watching, and I hope this video gave you some insight on how to reduce your pre-game anxiety moving forward.

  1. I would train and do my best, but because it was my first year of hockey I was so scared of falling in Front of the crowd and it would get me really nervous to the point where I didn’t even want to get on the ice when it was my shift ( it was pretty rare for me to get a shift ). I would do this often but eventually I sucked it up and went on the ice anyway when there was huge crowds. you shouldn’t let others opinion get to you as long as your working on yourself and trying your best to get better. it may not be your year this year but the following year it will show that you tried and gave your best effort. And if you stick to your grind it will show others you are there because of your hard work and the fact that you believed in yourself when they didn’t .

  2. Its off season for me now. Our team will train off ice for some month now but I still want to develop my ice skating and other things I do on the ice. What exercises do I need to do?
